- Oleksandr Usyk was born on 17 January 1987 in Simferop ol, Crimean Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union.
- His parents originally came from the northern region of Ukraine.
- Usyk is the firstborn in his family and has two siblings.

Amateur Career
- Usyk won his first three matches at the 2006 European Championships but was defeated in the semi-final.
- In 2008, he won the Strandja Cup after moving up to light-heavyweight.
- During the 2008 Olympic Games, he outpointed Yushan Nijiati but lost to Clemente Russo in the quarter-final.
- He won gold at the 2008 European Championships after dropping down to light-heavyweight.
- He achieved the heavyweight title at the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships and qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
- Usyk retired from amateur boxing with a record of 335−15.
Professional Career
- Usyk turned professional in 2013 at the age of 26.
- He held the undisputed cruiserweight championship from 2018 to 2019, being the first boxer in that division to hold all four major world titles.
