Lionel Andrés Messi (born on 24 June 1987), popularly known as “Lionel Messi” or Leo Messi, is an Argentine professional footballer hailing from Rosario, Santa Fe. He currently plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team. Messi’s exceptional skills and achievements have earned him a reputation as one of the greatest players of all time. His accolades include a record seven Ballon d’Or awards and a record six European Golden Shoes. He has scored over 800 senior career goals for club and country, setting a record for the most goals by a player for a single club (672).

Early Life

• Born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Messi is the third of four children of Jorge Messi, a steel factory manager, and his wife Celia Cuccittini, who worked in a magnet manufacturing workshop.
•  Messi’s passion for football was evident from an early age, as he spent countless hours playing with his older brothers, Rodrigo and Matías, and his cousins, Maximiliano and Emanuel Biancucchi, both of whom became professional footballers.
• At the tender age of four, Messi joined the local club Grandoli, where he was coached by his father.
• Messi’s maternal grandmother, Celia, played a significant role in his life. She would accompany him to training and matches. Messi often celebrates his goals by looking up and pointing to the sky in tribute to her.

Education

• Messi’s football education began at the Rosario club, Newell’s Old Boys, which he joined at six years old. During hi s six-year stint with Newell’s, he scored almost 500 goals as a member of “The Machine of ’87”.
• At the age of 10, Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, which threatened his future as a professional player.
